Balthazar (Jaeden Martell) is a wealthy teenage boy attending a private school in New York with the help of a life coach. The catch, he can cry on command, prompting him to upload videos of him fake crying about political issues to the internet in an attempt to win over his activist crush. Things become serious when a would-be mass shooter (Asa Butterfield) begins trolling him for speaking against gun violence, causing Balthazar to travel to Texas to confront him. Nominated for the audience award at the Tribeca Film Festival, the film tackles relevant topics of performative empathy, toxic masculinity and gen z’s validation performances in the digital age through genius satirical dialogue and pacing.
