As a reference to Roberto Rosselini’s classic, Europe ‘51, experimental Romanian director Radu Jude tackles the same thematics through a guerrilla lens and with distinct social commentary. After bailiff Ion evicts a homeless man from a basement, personal tragedy unfolds and forces her to deal with pains of growing guilt and identity crisis’ as she questions her own morality, surrounded by the suffocating political indifference society has to housing inequality. The film shifts between tragic, absurd and deeply comedic moments as we explore this beautiful portrait of modern Europe.
